The Crosby boys are back to their old ways. The Temple Owls visited Duquesne as the #23 team and the country. The Waterbury kids showed how good they really are and how they can both play with anyone in the country. Also representing the NVL well was 6'9 sophomore Jordan Williams from Torrington. Williams has become a dominant force in the ACC. Maryland led #7 Villanova 59-47 with about 6 minutes but managed to lose 74-66
Duquesne jumped out on the Owls early and went into halftime with a commanding 17 point halftime lead 40-23. Damian Saunders has shown why he is the best defensive player not only in the A-10 but in the country. He has taken a step back on the offensive end not taking many shots but he rebounds and plays the most important aspect of any sport - defense. The 6'7 foward has an enormous wingspan and with his long arms and athleticism, he can cause havoc. The senior had 9 rebounds to go along with 2 steals and 3 assists. Not flashy offensive numbers but boy is he a stat stuffer. Another stuff in the game was Saunders emphatic alley-oop that absolutely lit the gymnasium up. He caught it with one hand and threw it down for 2 points. The other Crosby player, B.J Monteiro has been a solid role player all year and gets a ton of minutes and playing his role as a versitile guard that can score and rebound. Monteiro a 6'5 guard is able to get scrap points and easy buckets against undersized guards. Watch out for Duquesne in the Atlantic 10. The move to 11-5 on the year and 3-0 in the conference.
Damian Saunders(Crosby)* - 37 minutes, 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 4 blocks
B.J Monteiro(Crosby)* - 36 minutes, 9 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assits, 2 blocks
Maryland, Maryland, Maryland - Randy Edsall, Jordan Williams, football, and crabcakes that's what Maryland does - and that's it. This team had a 12 points lead on national television (CBS) with 6 minutes left and blew the game bad against #7 Villanova. Marylands guards played awful and didnt even let Williams touch the ball towards the end of the game. Why? He's only the best player by far on the team and probably on the court this afternoon. The super soph. had 25 points and 14 rebounds. Villanova coach Jay Wright said "That Williams kid is an absolute beast". Nova's 19-0 run took all the shell right off the Terrapins and pulled out the win in Philadelphia.
Jordan Williams(Torrington)* - 25 points 14 rebounds 1 block
